Tears of the Kingdom is the subtitle for the brand new game in The Legend of Zelda franchise. The game, until now referred to as Breath of the Wild 2, will launch on May 12, 2023.
This is the third full-length trailer we’ve seen for the previously unnamed Breath of the Wild sequel, and showcases some brand new mechanics that already have fans chomping at the bit in order to play this new title.
In the new trailer we see a brand new sky kingdom, which Link can leap off of in a similar fashion to Skyward Sword. Elsewhere in the trailer we see that items, such as rocks, can be taken from the familiar land of Hyrule below up into the sky, possibly to build up a new kingdom, as implied by the title.
There’s also a brand new flight mechanic, where we see Link riding atop a soaring metal bird, which certainly appears to be some sort of ancient technology.
In Breath of the Wild, a bug that enabled flight was one of the most popular, and it seems that Nintendo is embracing this ability with this new game.
We first saw the game announced as Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (a bit of a mouthful) back in June 2019, meaning it has been more than three years that we haven’t known the final title of the game, and it will be just shy of four years after the initial announcement when the game is finally released.
The pandemic factored into several delays the game faced, but despite the long wait, fans are still celebrating the new trailer, and are eager to start exploring and building a new Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches May 12, 2023 exclusively on Nintendo Switch, and we’ll be reporting on it much more in the future.
