Tea cup stains 'disappear' quickly with 'no scrubbing at all' thanks to 9p trick

If you hate collecting your tea cup from the drying stand or dishwasher only to find it's still covered in stains, then you're in luck. As tea lovers will know, your favourite beverage often leaves behind an unsightly splatter - thanks to the high levels of tannic acid.

Given tannin stains aren't particularly water-soluble, they're not easy to wash out, either. So cleaning gurus often turn to their supplies for help, unless they want to be left with a conundrum.

Thankfully, there's a bargain solution said to be "amazing" when it comes to those pesky tea stains. As one woman found out, when she asked Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page for help, Astonish Clean and Revive powder could be the way to go.

According to Express.co.uk, the petitioner pleaded: "I love a cup of black tea but it leaves stains in the cup, any tips on getting it clean?" In response, fellow fans were quick to share their recommendations and Astonish proved to be a favourite.

"Astonish Clean and Revive and then wash. Trust me, it works brilliantly," one person advised.

Someone seconded: "Add a scoop of the Astonish Clean and Revive then some boiling water and the stains will disappear after an hour."

"Clean and Revive from Astonish and boiling water. Leave for a few minutes and the stains will be gone with no scrubbing at all. You can also put teaspoons in the mug at the same time that have tea stains," said another.

"The Astonish cup cleaner is amazing. It gets the stains off with no effort whatsoever," a fourth answered.

Talking exclusively to Express.co.uk Olivia Young, Astonish's cleaning chemist, claimed the product is "unique" and that it is "especially formulated to restore products to their original form" - cutting costs on unnecessary replacements.

The expert recommended adding half a tablespoon per teacup and then placing it into the sink to prevent spillages, ready for when the powder reacts with the hot water and the foaming action occurs.

Then, once you've added the hot water, leave the cup to cool for one to two hours. "Unlike stain remover and dish soap, there's no need to scrub as the foaming action does this all for you," said Olivia.

For anyone keen to test out the trick themselves, Astonish Clean and Revive can be picked up from Robert Dyas for £1.99, or 9p per use, given you only need to use 15g of the product at one time. Alternatively, it can be found in supermarkets such as Morrisons and Asda for £3.
