Tamil Nadu: Trichy police freeze bank account of ganja peddlers

TRICHY: City police have tightened the screw on ganja peddlers and started freezing the offenders' bank accounts. This comes after a total of 64 people were booked for ganja peddling in just five months.

Trichy city police said that the bank accounts of nine ganja peddlers in the city limits were frozen so far. This comes in line with the ‘Operation Ganja Vettai 2.0’ of Tamil Nadu police across the state.

Commissioner of police of the Trichy city, G Karthikeyan, on Saturday, said that the action of the police is likely to become tougher with them identifying the movable and immovable properties of the sellers.

“Process of identifying the properties throws up a lot of challenges, but we are working on it. Soon, the properties of the ganja peddlers will also be attached,” CoP Karthikeyan told TOI this evening.

On the action of curtailing the supply of ganja to the peddlers in the city, CoP said that the police teams have identified major suppliers from other areas as well. “The movement of such people is on the radar,” said CoP Karthikeyan.

In the central zone comprising nine districts, including Trichy rural, the police traced the primary and secondary suppliers of the contraband and arrested 53 of them in recent months.
