Tamil Nadu: New police chief takes charge

COIMBATORE: Inspector General of Police V Balakrishnan took charge as the commissioner of police, Coimbatore city, on Monday evening.

Addressing reporters, Balakrishnan said people who try to create communal, caste-related tension and involve in rowdyism would be dealt with an iron hand. He said police patrolling will be intensified. “As part of crime prevention and detection, CCTV surveillance will be increased. As the state government has been working against drug peddling and crime against women and children, people who are arrested in such charges will be tried as soon as possible.”

He added the new deputy commissioner of police (traffic) N Mathivanan would conduct a field study on traffic-related issues and take necessary steps to reduce accidents.

Deputy commissioners of police N Silambarasan (south range) and R Sughasini (headquarters) also have taken charge.
