Tamil Nadu: DMDK leader and actor Vijayakant unwell, right toe amputated

CHENNAI: DMDK leader and actor Vijayakant has been hospitalised for a surgical procedure to amputate his right toe, said an official party statement. He is recovering well, it added. The hospital did not issue a medical bulletin. He was admitted on June 14. "The toe was amputated following doctor's advice on Monday. He is recovering well and is being monitored by doctors," the statement said.

Vijayakant had been fighting diabetes for years and the decision to amputate the toe was made after irregular blood flow to the region. He will be under observation before being discharged, the statement said, urging functionaries, cadres and the public not to believe rumours on social media about his health.

CM Stalin tweeted, "I learned that my friend, captain Vijayakant is being treated at the hospital. I hope he recovers quickly and returns home in good health." Actor Rajinikanth said he prayed that his friend would recover soon and "roar like Captain" again.
