Tamil Nadu: Cop donates award money for girl’s education

CHENNAI: Thirukazhukundram inspector of police A Ravi Kumar has donated ₹10,000 he got as a reward for controlling anti-social elements in Chengalpet district to R Yazhini of Nelvoy village to help her complete her education.

Yazhini, whose father is a farmer struggling to meet ends, is pursuing her final year nursing course at a private college in the locality.

The inspector, who came to know about the plight of the family through the village panchayat head, decided to hand over the reward that is given to police personnel for acting on rowdy elements by senior officers to motivate junior officers to continue the good work. The team which was working hard to eliminate rowdy elements received ₹50,000.

“Despite several odds, the girl has managed to study nursing. Amid the financial crunch, I felt the amount will help the child at least meet her basic needs. The family is excited about the first graduate in their family. I will definitely try to help her in future,” said Ravi Kumar.

The student, who was happy to receive the sum, said it would help her in buying study material. Ravi Kumar was the inspector involved in the encounter of two history-sheeters in Chengalpet recently.
