Tallaght Stadium defaced with loyalist graffiti in response to Queen chant by fans

Tallaght Stadium has been daubed with loyalist graffiti in response to a section of Shamrock Rovers supporters singing about the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

'God bless our Queen', 'UVF' and 'Linfield FC' were spray painted onto the wall of The East Stand overnight on Friday.

The vandalism is a clear act of retribution after a section of Rovers' support belted out a celebratory song about the passing of the British monarch.

A clip recorded by a Hoops fan at their Europa Conference League group game against Swedish club Djurgården went viral and led to the club themselves condemning the 'callous' chant.

It read: “Shamrock Rovers FC has been made aware of chants by a group of individuals at last night’s game.

"Such highly insensitive and callous chanting is not acceptable at our club and is against the values that Shamrock Rovers FC stands for.

“Our ground regulations issued on match tickets and on signage at entry strictly prohibit such activity."

Similarly, the death of Queen Elizabeth II was also mocked by a segment of Celtic supporters on Wednesday.

They unveiled a large banner with 'F**k the Crown' on it during their Champions League game versus Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw.

Meanwhile that same evening there were contrasting scenes at Ibrox as the Rangers faithful showed their devotion to the royal figurehead.

As well as their fans holding up giant signs in tribute to the 96-year-old, the club actually defied UEFA instructions by playing 'God save the Queen' prior to kick-off.

European football's governing body has since intimated that they crack down on Rangers for disobeying their instructions.

The British monarch will be buried on Monday in a huge funeral that is such a logistical challenge that it has caused further disruption to the Premier League calendar with several games being called off as there is such a demand for police officers around London.
