Take-Two chief says GTA 6 Netflix preview is a ‘must-see event’ akin to a real TV show

In about 20 days’ time, we’ll finally get to see an “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar’s next, and probably biggest, game. The title is slated for launch on Nov. 19, and this Netflix-exclusive event will hopefully show us what the gameplay actually looks like, since all we’ve gotten so far are cinematic, if beautiful, trailers.

And Take-Two’s chief thinks it’s going to be a must-see. That is according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who spoke with Strauss Zelnick, the head of Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

Zelnick was very hush-hush when it came to a lot of topics and questions posed to him and outright refused to give an answer to some of them. However, when Schreier poked around for information about the Netflix deal specifically, Zelnick did reveal a couple of interesting things, though they still seem like corporate PR if you ask me.

“I do think there’s reasoning behind this,” Zelnick said about the Netflix deal. As Schreier says, the CEO did not want to go too in-depth about it but was firm in saying that it makes sense for Rockstar to strike this partnership with the broadcaster. “I think when the title is launched on Netflix, if you watch it, you’ll understand more,” Zelnick added.

Netflix has a gaming subdivision, and Rockstar Games released its titles on it a while back. Specifically, it put GTA San Andreas and the first Red Dead Redemption on there, giving folks another way to enjoy these two masterpieces. This could be where the “sense” comes from, though Zelnick appears adamant that the preview itself will make us figure things out.

Speaking of which, he says the event is a “must-see” while taking over bragging rights from Netflix and pointing out that it has 325 million subscribers worldwide. Corpos gotta have each other’s backs, I guess.

GTA 6 is coming out for the PS5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19, and on Aug. 27 we’ll get to see how the game actually plays. So far it’s been only cinematics and trailers, which, while cool, don’t reveal what truly matters: gameplay. It’ll be exclusive to Netflix for about 6 hours and then go live on all other platforms, including Rockstar’s own YouTube channel.

But I think we’ll get it reuploaded everywhere all at once as soon as it’s done broadcasting.
