Ally McCoist admits he hasn't watched Jack Butland for an extended period but he would still back a Rangers move for the former England stopper.
Butland, 30, is thought to be in line for a switch to Ibrox in the summer when his Crystal Palace contract expires.
We revealed that the signing of Butland is set to kickstart a number of significant changes for Michael Beale in the summer.
The keeper is currently on loan at Manchester United until the end of the season but Beale is poised to make Butland the first signing of the summer.
Allan McGregor is widely tipped to be ready to bring down the curtain on his Ibrox career at the end of the season.
Jon McLaughlin still has another year on his Rangers contract with Robby McCrorie also part of the goalkeeping unit.
But Butland could be signed as a new number one for Rangers ahead of the new season - an idea with which McCoist is on board.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: "I'd take that all day. Greegsy (Allan McGregor) has been a phenomenal servant to the club. I don't know how Robby McCrorie is coming on but we definitely need a keeper.
"I'm saying that although I haven't seen him (Butland) for a while. But if he's anything like he used to be I'd take him all day."
