T.J. Maxx closing stores in the US? These locations have shut down in 2026 - Here’s what we know so far

T.J. Maxx stores are nothing but a big blessing for those who love to shop on a budget and get designer labels at discounts. Hence, the closure reports of the stores for the year 2026 in the United States have definitely raised many eyebrows. But, the latest information available from Merca2.0 has brought good news for all lovers of the T.J. Maxx brand. It is a fact that even though there have been some closings of stores in the current year, they are not a part of any nationwide closure. There are quite a few T.J. Maxx stores around the nation. However, in states like Massachusetts and Maryland, some T.J. Maxx stores have already closed down in 2026. But it doesn't really paint the full picture.

The TJX companies have a really big international retail network, with their operations being spread across more than 5,000 stores in nine countries, reported the outlet. Their portfolio of retailing includes T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense and Sierra brands in the United States, Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls brands in Canada, TK Maxx and Homesense brands in Europe, and TK Maxx brand in Australia.

TJX also has a growing online presence with T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Sierra e-commerce websites in the United States, as well as three TK Maxx websites in Europe.

IS T.J. MAXX CLOSING STORES ACROSS THE US?

It is true that some outlets of T.J. Maxx have been closed in the US by 2026. However, there is a significant point that consumers should be aware of regarding this situation - the store closures are not part of the strategy of downsizing the chain all over the country.

According to Merca2.0, by the end of 2026, the number of outlets opened in the United States reached 1,348, which is 15 more outlets compared to the start of the year.

WHICH T.J. MAXX LOCATIONS HAVE CLOSED IN 2026?

According to the outlet, three T.J. Maxx locations have been closed so far in 2026. Two are in Maryland, while the other is in Massachusetts.

The locations are:

  • Boston, Massachusetts: 360 Newbury Street
  • Silver Spring, Maryland: 8661 Colesville Road
  • Cumberland, Maryland: 1262 Vocke Road

The Boston and Silver Spring closures involved well-established locations, making their departures particularly noticeable for regular shoppers in those communities.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR T.J. MAXX SHOPPERS?

T.J. Maxx customers should not see these store closings as a sign of the brand’s exit from American retailing for the time being. The company belongs to TJX Companies Inc., which also comprises Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense and Sierra in the United States.

TJX Companies Inc. has thousands of stores in several countries, allowing it to have a significant share in off-price retailing. So the situation in 2026 will not be about T.J. Maxx leaving the traditional retailing but about the transformations that occur in particular stores.

However, for customers the situation will be tangible as they will no longer visit the particular Boston, Silver Spring and Cumberland stores but will go shopping either at other T.J. Maxx stores or online.
