Syrian rebels have reported that senior officials from the Assad regime are preparing to defect to them in the capital city of Damascus amidst their ongoing advance. According to Lt. Col. Hassan Abdul Ghani, a spokesperson for the Military Operations Command, a group of high-ranking regime officials and officers in Damascus are in coordination with the rebels to facilitate their defection.
The potential defection of these senior regime figures has created a sense of unease and distrust among the military leadership of the Assad regime. Lt. Col. Hassan Abdul Ghani mentioned that there have been allegations of betrayal and collaboration with the rebels circulating within the regime's military ranks.
