Swansea City hold the option to extend Finley Burns' loan spell with the club by a season.
The Manchester City defender recently signed a new long-term contract to remain with his parent club until the summer of 2027 before being sent to Swansea on loan for the remainder of the current campaign.
However, WalesOnline understands Russell Martin's side will be able to keep Burns in their ranks for the duration of the 2022/23 term - providing that Pep Guardiola's side are pleased with the Englishman's progress in south Wales over the course of the coming months.
Burns was handed his Swans debut in Sunday's 3-1 win over Bristol City.
He operated in the right centre-back berth and ended the contest with the highest pass success rate (95.4%) of any Swansea player.

Meanwhile, Swansea are treating Nathanael Ogbeta with kid gloves as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The left-back was withdrawn as a precautionary measure late on in his final game for Shrewsbury Town before joining the Swans on transfer deadline day.
He is yet to feature for his new club after damaging his hamstring during his first training session at Fairwood earlier this month.
"He said it just felt a bit tight, and when we scanned it, it showed up as a bit more significant," explained head coach Martin.
"It looked to be a four-week injury, and he's about two-and-a-half weeks into that now. He'll be back on the grass in a couple of weeks.
"It's frustrating for him and us, but he's a long-term signing. Hopefully he'll get plenty of minutes this season to get him fully bedded in and make sure he's ready for next season."
