Swansea City eyeing up move for Sunderland winger Lynden Gooch

Swansea City are weighing up a move for Sunderland winger Lynden Gooch.

Sources have told WalesOnline that Swansea have shown a keen interest in the American winger, who is out of contract at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Sunderland are understood to be keen on keeping the 26-year-old, who came through the ranks of the club's academy, and was part of the side that triumphed in the League One play-off at Wembley last month.

The Black Cats have already opened talks over a new deal, but Swansea could yet swoop in, with Gooch understood to be open to a move to South Wales. Indeed, the chance to play under Russell Martin is believed to be a key factor.

However, at the time of writing, the Swans are yet to firm up their interest with an offer.

Preston North End are also believed to be keeping tabs on the situation.

Speaking about his future following Sunderland's win over Wycombe Wanderers under the Wembley last month, Gooch said: "Obviously I've played in the Premier League but staying all this time and trying to get the club back to a higher level, finally, finally we've done it.

"If it is my last game then you couldn't ask for a better way to go out. I'll see what happens. I'll sit down with the gaffer on Tuesday and we'll see what happens.

"No matter where I end up, I'm a Sunderland fan for life. I've been a part of the club for 16 years and this is the best day of my career."

A wideman is near the top of Swansea's agenda this summer, with loanees Hannes Wolf and Cyrus Christie both departing at the end of last season. There's a certain degree of enthusiasm on both sides to bring the duo back to the club, but at this stage a return for either player seems unlikely.

The club's new head of football operations Josh Marsh is believed to be a fan of Man City youngster Morgan Rogers, although there's no real evidence to suggest there is even any tentative interest in his signature at present. Chiedozie Ogbene is another winger they like, but insiders have already claimed that a deal is unlikely after Rotherham triggered another 12 months on his current deal.

In any case, there could well be interest from higher up the pyramid, with the Republic of Ireland international already understood to be attracting interest from the Premier League.

Elsewhere, the Swans are expected to complete the capture of young Arsenal goalkeeper Remy Mitchell, although he's likely to be a signing for the club's under-23s rather than the first team.

They also remain interested in midfielder Joe Allen, although the Welshman is understood to have put talks over his future on hold until the end of the current international break.
