Driven forward by the constant reminder of the "horrible and terrifying" lives her fellow Ukrainians face, Elina Svitolina won't allow herself to be sad about the end of her Australian Open journey.

The 31-year-old's remarkable Melbourne Park odyssey concluded at the hands of Belarusia's indomitable world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in a 6-2 6-3 semi-final defeat on Thursday.
