SUV Crash in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri Leaves Five Injured; MLA’s Son Booked

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Karera area, where Dinesh Lodhi, son of Pritam Lodhi, was reportedly driving a Mahindra Thar. According to police, the vehicle bore the word “Vidhayak” (MLA), indicating its association with a legislator.

Authorities stated that the SUV first struck a motorcycle from behind, injuring three riders — Sanjay, Ashish, and Anshul Parihar — who were on their way to Dhanra village. The vehicle then went on to hit two women, identified as Sita Verma and Pooja Soni, who were walking ahead on the same side of the road.

Among the injured, Sanjay Parihar sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered wounds to their heads, limbs, and shoulders. Passers-by immediately rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Based on statements from the victims, police confirmed that Dinesh Lodhi was allegedly behind the wheel at the time of the crash. A video circulating on social media shows him arguing with bystanders and appearing to blame the victims for not clearing the road. In the clip, he is heard questioning why people did not move aside despite his honking and use of a siren. He is also seen cautioning people against recording him.

Police have registered a case against Lodhi under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to rash and negligent driving that endangers human life. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, said Karera police station in-charge Vinod Chavai.

Reacting to the incident, MLA Pritam Lodhi stated that the police should act impartially and ensure justice for the victims.

Under Section 281 of the BNS, 2023, rash or negligent driving on a public road that endangers life is punishable with imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to ₹1,000, or both. The offence is classified as cognisable and bailable, and is triable by a Magistrate.
