Suspect named after teen slashed in neck during racial attack

A suspect has been named after two teenagers were attacked with a knife.

The victims, aged 17 and 18, were on Fell Street in Kensington, at around 8pm on Monday, June 27, when a stranger approached them and started to shout racial abuse at them. One of the teens shouted back and the suspect then slashed him in the neck with a knife.

The second teenager rushed to help his friend and was also slashed in the arm. Both victims required hospital treatment for their injuries but they are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives confirmed that they are treating the assault as a hate crime. Police have now charged John O'Donnell, with two counts of s18 assault, s4a racially aggravated public order and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The 56-year-old, of Holt Road, Kensington, will appear in Wirral adult remand court today, on Friday, July 1. A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Detectives investigating an assault on two teenagers on Fell Street in Kensington on Monday night (27th June) have charged a man.

"John O’Donnell, 56, of Holt Road, Kensington, has been charged with two counts of s18 assault, s4a racially aggravated public order and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was remanded in custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court today, Friday 1st July."
