Susanna Reid slams 'snobby' Strictly Come Dancing for banning certain type of reality star

Susanna Reid has slammed Strictly Come Dancing for avoiding booking Love Island stars.

The TV presenter was hosting Good Morning Britain when she accused the dance show of being "snobby" ten years after appearing on it herself.

The 52-year-old appeared on Strictly back in 2013 and finished in second place alongside Kevin Clifton.

Susanna was discussing the news with Ed Balls when she said: "It is a bit of a snobby ban isn't it? Not allowing Love Islanders on."

Susanna slamming the programme has come after it was announced former Love Islander Zara McDermott is the first to be asked to compete.

It's been reported that Zara has been involved in talked with BBC bosses for weeks after becoming one of the channel's rising stars.

According to MailOnline, bosses think having the 26-year-old on Strictly will attract younger people to watch as well as further her documentary career.

A source: "Zara is the perfect signing for Strictly, not only is she beautiful and glamorous but she is hardworking and will take being on the show very seriously.

"She's absolutely loved the experience of documentary making and is over the moon to further her relationship with the BBC by signing up to Strictly. It is a dream come true for her and becoming the first former Love Island star to do so is the icing on the cake."

Before Zara, no former Love Island contestants have been recruited to compete on Strictly but it's thought that Zara's recent documentary career has helped her out.

Zara has presented several documentaries for BBC Three including about her experience of revenge porn and the rise of eating disorders among teens.

It has been rumoured that Zara is set to take on TV presenter Angela Scanlon, who hosts BBC Two's Your Home Made Perfect, and former EastEnders actor Nigel Harman on the lineup this year.

Loose Women star Sophie Morgan has also allegedly signed up to be on the show, which would mean she would be the show's first ever wheelchair-using contestant.

Last year's competition saw wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin win the show alongside professional dancer Jowita Przystal.
