Support ramps up for Toy Appeal with generous cash donation in memory of tragic Lanarkshire lad

Kindhearted trustees of a Motherwell charity, set up following the tragic death of a popular teen at a Lanarkshire beauty spot, have donated a generous sum to the Advertiser's Toy Appeal.

The Liam Scott Foundation handed over an amazing £1500 to allow us, working in conjunction with our appeal partners the Salvation Army, to purchase an array of toys and gifts for needy children across South Lanarkshire to awake too on Christmas morning.

The Foundation was set up in the months following the death of 18-year-old Liam Scott, of Motherwell, who lost his life after slipping off the water's edge and into the river near Corra Linn in Lanark back in the summer of 2020.

The talented young footballer's death caused shockwaves across the county with hundreds of people paying tribute to the former Hamilton Accies' youth player.

Now, the charitable foundation works hard to help people across Lanarkshire, including by providing better signage and life-saving equipment to be placed at danger spots, such as the Falls of Clyde, across the county aswell as making donations to several local campaigns, all in memory of Liam.

Liam Scott Foundation committee member Archie Hall said: "Given the fact the Liam Scott Foundation has been set up to support children across Lanarkshire, the Advertiser's Toy Appeal campaign ties in exactly with what we set out to do and we are delighted to able to donate £1500 to help underprivileged children this Christmas."

Whilst we are receiving donations at present, we still need a whole lot more help! Brand new toys, gifts, giftcards, pyjames, clothes, toiletries, games etc are needed from age newborn to 18-years-old.

We also accept donations of batteries, sellotape, wrapping paper, gift tags/bags and cash!

Donations can be dropped in at any of the town’s two Starbucks coffee shops, Mecca bingo, Rocca Restaurant, Hays Travel Agents in Hamilton shopping centre and Happy Feet Nursery in Larkhall.

Our appeal partners, the Salvation Army on Burnblea Street, Hamilton, are now also taking in donations Monday to Friday 10am till 12pm. These include brand new toys and games for children aged newborn to 12 and gift sets or vouchers for the 13- to 18-year group.

There is still plenty of time to make your donation – with our official appeal end date on Friday, December 9 this year. So, please consider supporting a family in need this Christmas.
