Super Bowl 2022: The Rams missed a PAT and it turned into absolute chaos

An extra point is supposed to be automatic. An extra point is only an “extra” in name, purely decorative. Someone forgot to remind the Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

It was all Los Angeles to start this championship game. A pair of touchdowns from their top-two weapons–Odell Beckham Jr. and Cooper Kupp–gave Los Angeles an early 13-3 lead in the second quarter. The All-Star Rams were in total control, en route to a Lombardi trophy.

The latter Kupp score should’ve led to a solid 11-point lead, following a Matt Gay extra point.

But then the Rams, and Sean McVay, started to feel themselves a bit too much, perhaps.

Yes, that’s a bad snap with 12:51 left in the second quarter. Not the fourth quarter. Not even the second half. The Rams couldn’t get an extra point snap off in the early second quarter. Huh. Not my plan of attack, if we’re being honest.

The ball eventually ended up in the hands of Jessie Bates as the Bengals tried to run the play back. Spoiler alert: He did not score.

Bless the Bengals’ hearts, and bless the Rams for their special teams silliness.
