Taylor Swift has explained the story that inspired 'Patient Zero,' saying the idea emerged from a conversation with friends after one of them described being contacted by an ex-partner's new girlfriend.

The 36-year-old singer discussed the track in a Capital FM interview after its release on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. Rather than identifying a former partner as the song's subject, Swift traced its starting point to a discussion in which several friends said they had encountered similar situations.
