Sunil Singhania-led Abakkus Mutual Fund announced that it has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to establish a Specialised Investment Fund (SIF), creating a new avenue for the fund house to offer differentiated investment solutions under the brand name “Fokkus”.
The fund house received this approval on 28 August 2026. Through the platform, Abakkus Mutual Fund plans to introduce investment strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories, in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework and subject to the necessary filings and approvals, according to a press release by the fund house.
Fokkus will extend Abakkus Mutual Fund’s established investment philosophy into a new structure, combining its research-led approach and disciplined risk management with the broader flexibility offered by the SIF framework.
“We are pleased to enter the SIF space, marking an exciting new chapter for Abakkus. Over the years, we have remained focused on offering differentiated investment solutions backed by research and disciplined investing. Across AIFs, PMS, Mutual Funds and now SIFs, our objective has remained consistent, to identify meaningful investment opportunities for our investors and build solutions aligned with our core investment beliefs,” said Sunil Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director, Abakkus.
“The SIF framework provides flexibility to pursue differentiated investment strategies while addressing the distinct and evolving needs of investors. We intend to use this flexibility thoughtfully, remaining anchored in our investment philosophy and focused on opportunities across market cycles. We look forward to introducing our initial set of strategies in the coming months and building this platform over time,” Singhania further said.
Introduced by SEBI with effect from 1 April 2025, the SIF framework provides investors access to differentiated investment strategies while retaining the regulatory oversight and investor-protection principles applicable to mutual funds.
Details relating to investment objectives, asset allocation, risk factors and launch timelines of SIF Strategies will be announced following the completion of the requisite regulatory filings and approvals, the release further said.
SEBI’s approval marks an important milestone in Abakkus’ journey, enabling the fund house to broaden its investment offerings and explore strategies that make thoughtful use of the flexibility available under the SIF framework.
“Receiving SEBI’s nod to launch SIF offerings is a significant milestone in our journey. Our priority will be to establish robust investment processes and strong risk-management framework for this platform. Investor and partner education will also be an important area of focus as we enter this relatively new investment category,” said Vaibhav Chugh, Chief Executive Officer, Abakkus Mutual Fund.
“We will work closely with our distribution partners to build a clear understanding of the structure, suitability and potential role of SIFs in an investor’s portfolio. We look forward to developing strategies which we believe will complement our existing AIF, PMS and Mutual Fund Offerings and enable us to address evolving investor demands,” Chugh further said.
