Sunderland will both have their opening 2022/2023 Championship game shown live on TV in a bumper weekend of second-tier action. The Black Cats will have to wait one more day before seeing their return to the Championship as they host Coventry City on Sunday, July 31 with kick-off at 12pm.
Sunderland’s four-season wait for a return to the Championship was finally over last month when they banished their playoff hoodoo and beat Wycombe Wanderers, but fans will have to wait one more day to fill the Stadium of Light as they host Coventry on Sunday. The Sky Blues may be an inspiration for Alex Neil after their impressive 12th-place finish on their first campaign back last year.
With the Premier League returning in August, the Championship opening weekend will have a host of matches on Sky Sports. Friday’s traditional curtain riser sees Huddersfield host Burnley and Middlesbrough will host West Brom on Saturday evening, while Monday night’s clash comes from Vicarage Road as Watford host Sheffield United.
