Sunderland have been handed a boost ahead of their midweek clash with Huddersfield Town after it was revealed the Terriers will be without regular starter Ollie Turton. The right-back suffered ankle ligament damage in Huddersfield's recent 1-0 win over Millwall on Saturday, and will be out of action for several months.
Given Huddersfield boss Mark Fotheringham's desire to shore up the Terriers defence since his arrival, the news comes as a bitter blow.
Alongside Turton, the Terriers will also be without winger Sorba Thomas, who has been ruled out of the midweek clash due to suspension.

The 23-year-old picked up his fifth yellow card of the season late on in the win over Millwall, meaning he will also miss the Sunderland clash.
On the flip side, Sunderland will also be without a winger of their own in Jack Clarke, who like Thomas, is also suspended for the game due to picking up five yellow cards.
The Black Cats head into the contest against Huddersfield having not won in their last three games. With Huddersfield currently sitting 23rd in the Championship table, Tony Mowbray will hope this could be the perfect game to help Sunderland get back to winning ways.
