A hairdresser from Sunderland who set up a wig company after she was diagnosed with breast cancer has been selected for the royal honour of being an official baton bearer ahead of this year's Commonwealth Games.
Nicola Wood set up The Wonderful Wig Company as a second business after being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2016 when she was 36. She was dismayed at the lack of services available to the hundreds of women she came across while undergoing cancer treatment and so came up with an idea.
She had already experienced hair loss due to the side effects of medication for rheumatoid arthritis and wanted to support people before, during and after medical hair loss, including through alopecia so set up The Wonderful Wig Company. And thanks to her incredible work, Nicola has now been selected to represent the North East as an official baton bearer for the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay.
