Suicide was the second-leading cause of death for Americans ages 10 to 24 in 2024, accounting for 19.2% of deaths in that age group, according to final 2024 rankings from the CDC released September 22 by the agency's National Center for Health Statistics. Only unintentional injuries caused more deaths among young people.
