Sugar Prices Retreat on USDA Proposal to Reduce Sugar Intake in Schools

July NY world sugar #11 (SBN23) on Tuesday closed down -0.22 (-0.84%), and Aug London white sugar #5 (SWQ23) closed down -1.90 (-0.27%).

Sugar prices Tuesday closed moderately lower.  A stronger dollar Tuesday weighed on sugar prices.  Also, a proposal from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to limit sugar intake in children is bearish for prices as it could prompt food producers to use less sugar.  The USDA has proposed limiting the amounts of sugar used in flavored milk served in K-8 elementary schools and requiring those available to high schoolers to reduce their added sugar content.
