Succession season 4: new trailer drops and release date announced

Succession season 3 spoilers below

A brand new trailer for Succession season 4 has been released and, as usual, it’s all out war.

The one minute clip opens with all parties refusing to take a call with each other: “I mean if he were to call, then... we would see,” says Roman (Kieran Culkin).

Then Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) is sitting with Logan. Fans will remember too well that he betrayed his wife and the younger Roy members by revealing their takeover plan to Logan Roy (Brian Cox) at the end of the last series.

“I’m sure we’ll iron it all out, but what would happen...” says Tom. “If you and Shiv were to bust up?” finishes Logan.

As always, the backdrops are private jets, swish cars, luxurious villas with palm trees and extraordinary landscapes, while the heart-pumping sequences are broken up with clips of New York’s skyline, Shiv (Sarah Snook) looking glum in bed and Tom looking pained and staring out of a window.

Everyone is storming around, and seem to be plotting (of course) – in one scene, Roman and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) are literally standing in a wood at night time.

“This is not about getting back at Dad,” says Shiv’s voice over the clips, “But, if it hurts him, it doesn’t bother me.”

Sky Atlantic has also confirmed the release date of the forthcoming series: season 4 will air exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW from March 27. Mega-fans will be able to stay up and watch each episode at 2am, at the same time they are released in the US.

The show picks up exactly where season 3 dropped off, with the Roy family fighting for ownership over media conglomerate Waystar Royco.

Fans turned to the internet to share their excitement about the new trailer: “Just screamed in my room like a 17 year-old girl. succession 4 trailer just dropped,” Tweeted one, “New Succession trailer who else cried,” Tweeted a second.

Succession has been a massive success, picking up dozens of awards since it was first released in 2018, including several Golden Globe and Emmy awards. The Standard described it as “delicious to watch” and that “the billionaires are behaving badly and it is thrilling to see how it all unfolds”.

And for fans, it looks like there could be a few seasons still in the works after season 4. Speaking to Variety at the BAFTAs in London in May, the show’s creator Jesse Armstrong said: “I don’t think it should go on forever. But we’re still having fun at the moment.”
