Subway worker shot dead by angry customer - because sandwich had too much mayo

A young worker at a Subway fast food restaurant has been shot and killed after a customer pulled out a gun and opened fire because they were angry over the amount of mayonnaise on their sandwich.

The shooting has left cops in the US city of Atlanta shocked, with one senior officer calling the incident 'ridiculous'.

Police were sent to a petrol station following reports a person had been shot.

When they arrived, horrified officers discovered two women had been attacked in a dispute over a sandwich, Local news channel WSB-TV reports.

One of the young women died and another female worker was seriously hurt in the bloodbath.

“It just breaks my heart, to know that someone has the audacity to point a weapon, and shoot someone for as little as too much mayonnaise on a sandwich,” takeaway co-owner Willie Glenn said.

He confirmed both girls had started working at Subway just three weeks ago, and were “model employees”.

Interim chief of police Darin Schierbaum said arguments are the majority cause of homicides in 2022.

He told the channel: “An argument leads to someone picking up a weapon and firing that gun, leaving someone dead or someone critically injured.

“I’m here to speak to the ridiculous nature of crime.

“We need individuals to talk out their disputes, walk away and do not pick up guns. We can take down drug operations that breed violent crime, we can dismantle gang organisations that breed violent crime, we can stop robbery crews that breed violent crime, we cannot stop someone who is mad because there is too much mayonnaise on their sandwich.”

Al Robinson, another co-owner of the Subway restaurant, described the shooting as "just too much".

He told reporters: “You pull out a gun and shoot somebody, over a sandwich. My heart just breaks right now.”

Police said they’re still in the early stages of their investigation and are looking through video and interviewing witnesses.

They’re still looking for the shooter, officials told the news channel.
