Subway launches bizarre Creme Egg sandwich – but there's a catch

The beauty of Subway is filling your sandwich with your favourite combinations, even if the rest of the world thinks its rather odd. Whether you're a steak and cheese fan or create your own sub, you can mix and match until you find something you like.

However inventive you may be with your sub, Subway have come out with a creation stranger than anything we customers could dream of – a Creme Egg melt.

The "eggs-tra special" SubMelt is full to the brim with Easter favourite treat, the Cadbury's Creme Egg, and toasted in a sub until all the chocolate and fondant melts.

Subway's Easter treat is extremely limited edition and comes in a 6-inch Italian White Bread sub which the company describes as "golden toasted on the outside and deliciously gooey on the inside".

Oh and did we mention it's totally free?

The Creme Egg melt is available for one day only on Good Friday (Friday, April 7), to customers for no cost at all - but there is a slight catch.

For anyone wanting to try this fondant, chocolate melt you'll have to get to one of only four stores in the country that are giving it away.

London, Liverpool, Swansea and Glasgow are the chosen cities to get this gooey treat and each restaurant will have a limited number to give away as only 500 of these melts are to be made.

Rusty Warren, senior NPD and product innovation manager, at Subway, said: "We're delighted to have collaborated with Cadbury this Easter. Our Italian White Bread and Cadbury Creme Eggs make the most flavoursome combination - a perfect seasonal treat!

"All the team at Subway are especially excited to see how those Subway fans with a sweet tooth respond to this delicious SubMelt."

Charlotte Docker, brand executive for Cadbury Creme Egg, said: "When Subway approached us to create this eggs-traordinary Submelt, we simply couldn't resist! The highly-anticipated Creme Egg season is in full swing and we’re so excited to launch this innovative product with Subway as a final hoorah of the season.

"We can't wait for the response of those lucky enough to try this surprisingly delicious merging of sweet and savoury."
