Students are asking whether they can pitch tents on UCD's campus as Dublin's housing supply hits all-time low.
Third-level students will be returning to the capital for the new term next year and many will struggle to find accommodation. UCD Student Union were out in force this morning asking homeowners to consider renting out a room in their house to a student.
UCD SU President Molly Greenough told Newstalk this year is different for students seeking accommodation in the capital. She said: "This time last year students were struggling to find somewhere affordable, now it has gotten to an overall supply issue.

"We've seen students extending themselves far beyond their price point and means for what they have to pay. We have had students asking whether they are permitted to camp on campus and bring in tents.
She added: "It is important to note there are probably students who aren't contacting us because they have heard and seen everything that is going on and have realised it might not be on the cards this year to attend UCD."
Ms Greenough said students have budgets of €1,200 to €1,300 and often show up to viewings with 60 to 70 others all vying for the same room. There is a massive shortage of homes available to rent with less than 300 rentals available across the capital according to the latest Daft.ie report.
Homelessness activist Fr Peter McVerry previously told Dublin Live things would become "catastrophic" this winter due to a "perfect storm" of factors.
