Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez are being tipped to cause a Strictly Come Dancing 'upset' after their stellar performance on Friday night saw their odds of winning the show shorten even further. And the prediction that they could triumph comes as Helen gave credit to Gorka for his support.
As they continue to gain on bookies' favourites Hamza and Jowita, Helen and Gorka once again put themselves firmly in the frame for a shot at Strictly victory with a fierce Musicals Week performance to Mein Herr from Cabaret. There were whoops and screams around the ballroom throughout the routine and as it ended, with an electric reception sounding out around the studio as the pair’s Strictly co-stars took to their feet with excitement.
Judge Anton Du Beke said he was emotional at seeing Helen go out there and give it her all, after being hit with a crippling lack of self confidence earlier on in the series. The routine earned Helen and Gorka 39 out of 40, the same score their Quickstep got in Blackpool, as many viewers dubbed it the ‘dance of the series.

And, as well as sharing fellow celebs’ and friends’ reactions to the performance in her Instagram story, TV host Helen also took time to praise Gorka. Sharing a backstage photo of them, she wrote: “Gratitude post. The one who doesn’t get the credit for getting me on the dancefloor. There’s a reason why people love you Gorka Marquez.”
Helen and Gorka finishing joint top of the leaderboard along with Will and Nancy has seen their odds of taking home the Glitterball trophy in just a few weeks time cut to just 11/4, although Hamza and Jowita still lead the way on 1/2, despite them only getting 26 on Friday.
William Hill have Helen and Gorka on 5/2 and their spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Helen has shown how determined she is time and time again. I think she has it in her to go all the way, she doesn't give up easily."
Helen and Gorka are a step closer to clinching the Strictly win as they made it through to next week's semi final, as Kym and Graziano were eliminated.
