Giovanni Pernice has shared his mum's honest reaction to his ex-girlfriends as he opened up about his love life amid rumours he is dating his co-star. The Strictly Come Dancing star's love life is just as well documented as his dances on the hit BBC One show.
So it came as no surprise that back in August, ahead of what was a short appearance in the dance contest's 2022 series, he had a cheeky response when he was asked by fans about his dating life.
Clearly eager to know more about his then-current romantic situation, one fan quizzed in an Instagram Q&A: "Who are you dating?" But Giovanni wasn't going to give up that information and instead he replied with a long list of people including Gorka Marquez, Kai Widdrington, and various members of the BBC production team, tagging them in his post.
The Italian dancer has been linked to the likes of former Love Island star Maura Higgins, Pussycat Doll Ashely Roberts, and former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote.
Giovanni and Maura dated for four months before suddenly calling it quits after a string of affectionate public displays. But the Strictly star insisted that there was no wrongdoing on either side. Taking to his Instagram Stories at the time of the split, Giovanni explained: "Firstly, great relationships with great people can come to a natural end.
Now, in a fresh quizzing about his romantic life, Giovanni has been heard sharing how he wants a family of his own one day. The revelation comes in an upcoming episode of the star's new BBC One travel show with Strictly judge Anton Du Beke, titled Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily.
The episode, which airs next month, sees Giovanni open up to Anton in an intimate chat sitting around a campfire, The Sun reports. "My mum asks me questions constantly, ‘Giovanni what is the situation?'" he says in the show.
“Because every time I date a girl I always tell her and say ’What do you think about this? What do you think about her?’ Bless her she has seen so many passing by. She always asks, ‘Is she The One. You know I want a baby before I pass away?'!
The 32-year-old goes on: "Of course, I want a family one day. You just have to find the right person first. I am just very focused on my career at the moment." It comes as he has been linked to Strictly co-star Jowita Przystał. Rumours began circulating about Giovanni and the Polish dancer, 28, shortly after she lifted the Glitterball trophy with Hamza Yassin last month.
He then adds in the show: "It is a tricky thing. There is a fine line about wanting to be in a relationship and be with somebody because you get lonely."
It was announced back in October that Giovanni and Anton had landed their own TV series. It will see Gio take Anton, 56, to explore the Italian island where he is from. A teaser trailer showed the pair sailing off the coast of Sicily. In the clip, Anton joked "the capitano has got lost in the middle of the ocean" as they pan around to the scenic views.
The BBC said the dancers will eat Sicilian cuisine while perhaps indulging in a tango or two in the new series. The pair will also explore local sights including Mount Etna and the old towns on the Mediterranean island.
