Strictly's Flavia and Jimi detail why they quit showbiz for a farm in Devon

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Flavia Cacace-Mistry has spoken alongside her husband Jimi Mistry about packing up their life to move to the sticks.

The professional dancer and the ex-EastEnders star first met when they coupled up on the 2010 edition of the dance show.

Flavia left the dance show in 2014 and the loved-up pair swapped their bungalow in Guildford for a seven-acre smallholding in Devon.

The couple now live in a converted stone barn, from which they sell eggs they collect from their flock of hens.

The couple also keep sheep while growing their own fruit and vegetables, and said they are looking to get goats on the farm.

The couple gave fans an update on their move during Thursday’s instalment of Loose Women, when they appeared in the ITV studio in what they described as a holiday away from the farm.

The pair made the move shortly before the coronavirus pandemic hit and Jimi said the idea was in part sparked by his long-time “struggle” with fame.

He said: “When we came to the decision about going there, it was during Covid and lockdown, when everything ground to a halt.

“We’d always had this vicarious hobby of going to look at houses, as you do, and we’d always joked about growing a vegetable or having chicken. But we got to a point where we said what do we really want to do now? And that was it. It just happened.”

However, the married couple said they initially were left questioning their decision when they first took over ownership of the property, which had been previously used as a second home and left “overgrown”.

Flavia said: “We moved during a storm and we were waiting to get the keys, sitting in this petrol station, with the wind blowing the car.

“We got there and it was quite emotional, a bit scary because we couldn’t find the front door keys.”

“It resonated with a lot of people who always dreamt of doing something like that.” (ITV)

While the pair admitted it was an initial learning curve, as neither of them had experience with agriculture or animals, but they haven't looked back since.

Jimi said: “It resonated with a lot of people who always dreamt of doing something like that.”

Their bio states: “Follow us on our life changing journey as we move to the country and follow our self sustainable dream.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
