Strictly's Dianne Buswell says she was 'disappointed' in early exit from last year's show

Dianne Buswell has opened up about handling negativity and anxiety, saying that her positive approach helped deal with her early exit on Strictly Come Dancing last year.

The professional dancer, 33, was partnered with comedian Robert Webb, 49, in the latest series of the BBC show, with them withdrawing in the fourth week due to his "ill health."

She has cited it as an example of a time when "negativity [was] creeping in" within herself, admitting that she has her "fair share of self-doubt and negativity," as well as anxiety.

The former finalist - who describes herself as a generally "positive person" - said she tries to "focus on the things [she has]," including when she prematurely departed the show.

In a piece for the Daily Mail, she said: "It was disappointing to leave Strictly so early because of [Robert's] health, but I reminded myself that I was lucky to have a partner."

Dianne - who is dating vlogger Joe Sugg, 30, whom she was partnered with on the show in 2018 - said the experience actually makes her "more determined" to win this year.

The dancer however revealed in the recent piece that she has a tendency to be "quite an anxious person," admitting she's felt more pressure as she's become more successful.

She said confronting her anxiety on Freeze The Fear with Wim Hof was "liberating," with her among the celebrities mentored by Wim Hof, 63, on the new BBC series.

Dianne said that even now, months after filming, she's still using some of the techniques she learnt, including the three-minute freezing showers and breathing exercises.

"When we were filming the breathing exercise, I broke down, as I was basically releasing a past trauma. I could feel all my anxiety and fear pouring out in my tears," she explained.

She however said that now if she feels nervous or anxious she will repeat the exercise, with her commenting in the recent piece that it's "incredibly effective."

Dianne also praised partner Joe, who is her "cheerleader." She said that emigrating from Australia was "tough," though his family and Strictly have been a support network for her.

Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Strictly Come Dancing: The Professionals, featuring Dianne, is touring the UK now.
