Strictly Come Dancing's Helen Skelton emotional as she opens up on 'real reason' she joined the show

Strictly Come Dancing’s Helen Skelton admitted that the BBC show “helped her remember who she is” as she opened up about the ‘real’ reason for competing in the competition.

During tonight’s episode of the BBC show, it was Musical Week and the ex Blue Peter presenter and her pro partner Gorka Marquez performed their Couple’s Choice to Mein Herr, from Cabaret.

However before stepping onto the dance floor Helen opened up on the tough year she had, following her split from Leeds rugby player Richie Myler.

In an emotional clip she revealed why she decided to take part in Strictly this year, she said: "I did Strictly this year because...sometimes you just need to jump on the opportunity and chance to put a big smile on your face."

Helen's parents then appeared on screen, with her mum saying: “As the weeks have gone on she has become more and more confident. Her dad jumped in: “I mean I am no dance expert but I thought she was fantastic.”

Gorka asked: “Could you ever imagine yourself doing this dance on week one?” Helen admitted: “Absolutely not. I could not have done this week one, week two or three even. It’s kind of quirky, not me at all.”

Helen continued: “Strictly have given me so many things already. It’s helped me remember who I am and what I am about.”

Once the pair hit the dance floor they impressed not only the judges and viewers at home but the live studio audience.

Judge Anton Du Beke admitted he was left emotional watching her Couple's Choice, saying he loved seeing her really going for it and giving it her all.

They managed to score 39 out of 40, putting them joint top of the quarter final standings with Will Mellor and Nancy Xu.
