Huge BBC show plans to sign up Phillip Schofield after his This Morning axe

Strictly Come Dancing is reportedly looking to sign up Phillip Schofield for the dancing competition after he announced his immediate departure from This Morning.

Phillip, 61, was the main presenter for This Morning for 21 years before he announced his exit over the weekend.

The TV star's exit came after it was revealed that his 42-year-old co-star Holly Willoughby had 'cut ties' with Phil after their friendship 'cooled'.

After weeks of Phil hitting headlines, it has been reported that the BBC dancing contest 'have their sights' on him showing off his moves on their show.

"They would love to have him on board because of the publicity it would generate for the show," an insider claimed.

They added to The Sun : "Phil has been asked before but this time the offer was more aggressive."

Feud rumours between Phil and Holly mounted after Phillip's brother's sex abuse trial, as well as the queue-gate saga which happened back in September after both Phil and Holly were falsely accused of skipping the line to see the late Queen Elizabeth lying-in-state.

Over the weekend, Phillip announced he was stepping down from his post decades on the ITV sofa.

In a statement shared on Saturday, Phil said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind," he said.

"I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love. So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future."

He concluded his statement by confirming he'd be back on TV in a few weeks' time, adding: "I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
