Strictly announces Kym Marsh as second contestant to join 2022 line-up

Actress, singer and TV presenter Kym Marsh has been revealed as the second celebrity contestant to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2022 line-up. The 46-year-old spoke to BBC Breakfast on Thursday morning via video call from her holiday abroad.

“I am really looking forward to it. I am nervous – but I am really looking forward to it," She told presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. She revealed how her parents were "absolutely delighted" and "really excited" as they both appeared from behind a curtain grinning and waving.

Kym found fame as part of the pop group Hear'Say in the early noughties and is best known for playing Michelle Connor in ITV soap Coronation Street. She currently co-presents BBC's Morning Live alongside Gethin Jones, who competed on Strictly back in 2007.

Asked if Gethin had given her any tips ahead of her appearance, she replied: “I always joke with him. I always go: ‘Were you on Strictly? Because you never mention it’. He loves it.” But she revealed she hadn't yet told him she had signed up, adding: “I will probably get a message later on saying, ‘You never told me!’.”

The news was also announced over on the Strictly Come Dancing official Twitter page. The post read: "She's an actress, singer, presenter and now soon to be #Strictly dancer! Say hello to Kym Marsh."

Kym joins actor Will Mellor, who is best known for roles in Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, Line of Duty, Casualty and Coronation Street. He also announced he would be taking part in the 2022 series on BBC Breakfast on Thursday morning.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
