The Public Health Agency (PHA) is urging parents and guardians to be alert for the signs of group A streptococcal (GAS) infections.
It comes after it emerged that five-year-old Stella-Lily McCorkindale, a P2 pupil at Black Mountain Primary School in Belfast, died after an illness linked to the Strep A infection.
The PHA has said there are currently no plans to close schools in Northern Ireland despite an unseasonal leap in the number of scarlet fever and Strep A cases.
