Maya Hawke discussed her mother Uma Thurman 's past abortion during an interview this week, following the US Supreme Court 's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The landmark case - which had legalised abortion in the US - was overturned last week, which has resulted in the restricting and even banning of abortion in some states.
Following the ruling, numerous celebrities have spoken out against the decision, with Stranger Things actor Maya, 23, having done so herself on The Tonight Show yesterday.
She recalled her mother, fellow actor Uma, 52, had once had an abortion - with this revealed in an opinion piece by the mother-of-three for the Washington Post last year.
Maya said: "My mom wrote this really beautiful essay about her abortion [...] and about how if she hadn't have had it, she wouldn't have become the person she's become."
She suggested her mother's life would have been "totally derailed" if she had not had "access to safe and legal healthcare" - before discussing the impact of recent events.
The actor - who plays Robin Buckley in Netflix 's Stranger Things - further commented to host Jimmy Fallon, 47, that wealthy people will "always be able to get abortions".
She added that because of the recent ruling though, "so many people [...] will not only not be able to pursue their dreams, but [will] actually lose their lives and be unsafe".
Maya - whose father is Ethan Hawke, 51 - then said on the show: "F*** the Supreme Court." She added: "We're gonna keep fighting. We're gonna win like our grandmother's did."
Uma had opened up about her abortion in an article for the Washington Post towards the end of last year, which was written in response to changes to abortion law in Texas.
She wrote: "In my late teens, I was accidentally impregnated by a much older man." Uma said that she was living abroad at the time and was about to start a new job.
The actor - known for films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill - said that she was at the beginning of her career and "didn't have the means to provide a stable home" for a child.
She recalled that, following conversations with relatives, she decided to undergo an abortion, which she described in the piece as having been the "hardest decision" of her life.
Uma however added in the article: "But it was the path to the life full of joy and love that I have experienced. Choosing not to keep that early pregnancy allowed me to grow up and become the mother I wanted and needed to be."
Years after the abortion, Uma went on to marry fellow actor Ethan in 1998. Their daughter Maya was born that same year and the couple's son Levon Hawke, 20, was born in 2002.
Her marriage to Ethan ended in around 2003 and she later had a relationship with financier Arpad Busson, 59. The former couple have a nine-year-old daughter together.
