Stolen motor found perched on metal cylinder on roundabout in Scots town

Police have launched a probe after a stolen car was found perched on top of a metallic cylinder on a roundabout in a Scots town.

Cops were called to the Scotts Street area of Annan, Dumfriesshire, around 5.10am Wednesday morning following reports that a vehicle had been abandoned. Officers confirmed the motor had been stolen from Murray Street.

Images from the scene show the black Honda Civic sitting on top of a four foot high object within the roundabout on the B721. The motor is suspended on the dark-red cylinder, which is lodged beneath the centre of the car, holding it in place.

The area around the crash site was coned off by police, while a recovery truck could be seen in the background. Baffled locals expressed their shock at the early morning sight, with many unable to comprehend how the car ended up balanced on the object around a metre off the ground.

On social media, Lindsay Milligan commented: "Surely that has been put up there by a crane!! If someone has landed it up there, how fast were they going."

Jennifer Kerr added: "I've been trying to suss this out for ages, I thought it was photoshopped." Gavin Ferguson said: "For sale, one carefully owned flying Honda, pick up only in Annan."

Clive Hardisty joked: "Bet it's a hire car, higher, get it?" Melissa Johnston wrote: "Don't know how but I would leave it there, lol, looks good."

And Denise Mckie commented: "Well who ever was flying it needs to learn they are facing the wrong way to go round the roundabout." But one social media user suggested the car had actually been nicked, leaving the owner struggling to get to work.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist with their enquiries to get in touch. Dick Mossop wrote: "It was stolen from Murray Street this morning and put up there. Owner can't get to work or anything. Shameful."

Sergeant Brian Dickson, of Annan Police Office, said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident. Anyone with any information about this theft or the vehicle being left on the roundabout is urged to contact police.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dash-cam or CCTV footage which may show the car being transported or abandoned.”
