Sticks’n’Sushi: Danish-Japanese chain to open biggest restaurant to date

The restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi will open its biggest UK restaurant to date next week with the launch of a 220 cover site in Kingston.

After opening its first London site in nearby Wimbledon 11 years ago, the Japanese concept has grown to nine in the capital, with its latest and tenth the first to broach the outer suburbs.

“The restaurant will offer Surrey residents and visitors to the royal borough an opportunity to experience Sticks’n’Sushi,” said an announcement.

The menu at the brand’s latest restaurant will be unchanged, with the likes of scallop ceviche, sushi plates, and grilled yakitori skewers incoming. It is a group known for affordable snacks and accessible sushi, with dishes such as crab croquettes at £10.60 and two pieces of nigiri starting at £2.70.

The team said its “ebi bites” — tempura shrimp with chilli, miso, lime and coriander — will also feature, as well as the group’s drinks list of cocktails, sake, and Japanese teas.

As for the space, the site will be set over two floors, including a large terrace, “capturing that signature balance between Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian elegance,” according to press material.

Sticks’n’Sushi is likely to continue to expand in the UK, with sites in Oxford and Cambridge recent additions. It was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark — where there are 12 restaurants — in 1994, and now also has three outposts in Berlin.
