Steven Gerrard opens up on Rangers grounding from Jurgen Klopp

Steven Gerrard has lifted the lid on Jurgen Klopp's advice ahead of taking his first job in management at Rangers.

The Liverpool legend worked in the Premier League club's academy prior to taking over the hot seat at Ibrox in the summer of 2018.

He spent around three-and-a-half years with the Light Blues, leading them to their 55th title success in his last full season.

Gerrard departed in November 2021 for Aston Villa, but was sacked by the EPL side after less than a year in charge.

Such setbacks are part of life though, and Gerrard has opened up on some sound advice from Liverpool gaffer Klopp which helped him adapt to becoming his own man in the dugout.

He told Be the Standard initiative: “Jurgen gave incredible support. He knows the game. I got good advice from him. That was good grounding for me and helped me learn the management trade.

"I was obsessed and still am obsessed with winning. But in football, probably like you in business, you’ve got to be prepared for the highs and the lows.

"I’ve had disappointments and setbacks like injuries but that drove me on to get even better. You have to be switched on mentally, setbacks help you in the end.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Dickinson is poised to leave his position at Ibrox as Rangers continue their executive restructuring ahead of the new campaign.

The director of finance and football administration is set to head for the exit door after more than three decades working for the club.

Dickson joined the finance department at Ibrox in 1991 and became financial controller ten years later. After assuming his current position, he was appointed to the board following regime change in 2015.

Dickson is currently a member of the Scottish FA Congress and Rules and Revision Committee, the SPFL Judicial Panel Protocol Working Group and is the Rangers representative with the Glasgow FA.
