Steve Cooper sends message to Nottingham Forest fans after special City Ground atmosphere

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper was keen to stress it wasn’t a celebratory lap of honour around the City Ground by his team after their 5-1 thumping of Swansea City.

The Reds do not yet know whether they have played at home for the last time in 2021/22, or whether there will still be another game to come. But just in case they have, they were keen to express their thanks to the fans who have backed them in huge numbers this season.

It was another sell-out on Saturday as Forest kept their automatic promotion hopes alive with a crucial victory amid an electric atmosphere. They remain three points behind second-placed Bournemouth with two games to play - with that meeting between the two sides to come on Tuesday evening.

"The guys are focused in the changing room. We did the lap of honour, but it wasn't a celebration. It was an appreciation of the supporters,” said Cooper.

“We felt it coming back as well, which was lovely - so thank you for that. The fans know what I think of them. That will only get stronger from me.

"The boys have said the (Bournemouth) game can't come quick enough. We'd have played it Saturday night if we could.

"We'll stick to the plan. We'll look forward to it. Stick to the plan, stay on task, nothing needs to change.

"I'm just really focused on what's next. Honestly, that is recovering well, training well, going through the game and seeing where we can improve - which is a clear one, score more goals. That's how we work, we keep going.”
