Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has become the latest to praise Rodrigo Moreno for his start to the season for Leeds United. The 31-year-old is currently in the best run of form of his entire Leeds career as he is currently the Premier League’s top scorer with four goals from his opening three matches.
After a positive pre-season, in which he netted goals against Blackpool, Crystal Palace and Cagliari, Rodrigo has been able to carry that momentum into the new campaign. Rodrigo arrived for big money from Valencia back in the summer of 2020 and remains Leeds’ record signing.
It has not been an easy time for him at Elland Road, but the Spaniard is finally starting to live up to his £27 million price tag. Rodrigo has arguably benefitted from the increased quality in competition for places in Leeds’ attack, with both Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra coming in this summer.

With the likes of Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford, Daniel James and Joe Gelhardt also competing for a starting berth in the front four, Rodrigo has clearly acknowledged the need to raise his game to stay in the team. Speaking on the Fozcast, Foster believes Rodrigo has very much ‘stepped up’ to the plate to replace departed key man Raphinha.
He said: “He’s stepped up. It’s like when Raphinha left I thought ooh they’re going to struggle. He’s wearing the captain’s armband but he’s the guy that’s taken that mantle and he’s trying to score the goals, he looks lovely.”
