Stella McCartney accepts CBE from King Charles for services to sustainable fashion

Stella McCartney has been presented with a CBE by King Charles III this morning, following her Investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. To do so, she looked every inch the McCartney model.

The British fashion designer and daughter of Paul McCartney naturally sported one of her own, environmentally mindful designs to become a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Her sophisticated, navy blue dress was cut just over the knee, and consisted of smart long sleeves, and a dark satin waistband.

While appearing simple on the outside, the look had a strong, canvas structure and featured corset-style boning providing its stiff silhouette. As with nearly all of her designs, it was crafted from conscious materials. In this case, the dress was made of NATIVA™ wool which is supplied by a company offering a more transparent supply chain than others on the market. NATIVA™ describes itself as “the most-advanced 100 per cent traceable Merino wool label globally.”

She paired the dress with lofty, navy stilettos from her label’s archive, as well as a custom lace veil scattered with statement, blue pom-poms from the Wandsworth-based milliner Emily-London, as she beamed at the King.

McCartney received the title as a recognition of her services to Fashion and Sustainability. She has been a pioneer and innovator within eco-conscious clothing since founding her eponymous label in 2001, following four years as the Creative Director of Chloé. When it comes to activism, the designer takes after her mother Linda McCartney, the animal rights trailblazer.

And the designer was well rehearsed for the moment. In 2013, she was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II looking not-too dissimilar, in a cinched silhouette, navy blazer and pencil skirt of her own design.

The designer is working on a tight schedule at the moment, having just returned from LA after throwing a blow-out bash with friends Kate Hudson, Georgia May Jagger and Paris Jackson, and will soon be in Paris where she is to present her next collection on March 6.
