Being the NFL draft junkies that we are, we love digging into next year’s draft even though the 2023 NFL draft is only a month old. Our friends at Touchdown Wire have a new one-round mock draft out for next year and we decided to take a look and see what direction they went for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They have the Steelers picking No. 17 overall (the draft order is based on last season, I believe), and they pick Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy’s game is all about his explosive speed and athleticism. He’s a little slight in his build but it’s hard to deny he has first-round potential.
But looking at mock drafts this early in the process is less about the player and more about the position. Yes, it’s great to get the names of some of the more interesting prospects out there ahead of the college football season. It is always just as interesting to what direction pundits go for the Steelers early.
What does a receiver in the first round say? It says things aren’t going well for either Diontae Johnson or George Pickens and the Steelers are desperate. It would be way out of character for Pittsburgh to spend a first-round pick on a wide receiver at all.
