Steelers expected to (finally) make a splash WR signing in free agency

The Pittsburgh Steelers took a significant risk by not signing a top free agent wide receiver in 2024. We want to believe they’ve learned their lesson.

While he didn’t speculate who the Steelers might target, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac is confident Pittsburgh will make a splash this spring.

“Yes, I do. A WR for starters,” Dulac responded in a Steelers fan chat when asked if he anticipates a big move in free agency.

Pittsburgh was reportedly in the mix to trade for San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk last summer. He dominated headlines for months. Steelers brass were left with their pants down when the deal fell through in the final hours.

As Steelers Nation painfully witnessed in 2024, George Pickens is not enough. Roman Wilson will essentially be a second-year rookie. Calvin Austin III showed flashes, but the offense as a whole wasn’t good enough for him to be consistent. Van Jefferson? Gimme a break. Mike Williams? He made big plays when they used him. They’ll be free agents anyway. Bye.

The NFL has been a passing league for years. The Steelers have chosen to ignore it, and it has cost them. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll wake up in the coming months.
