Jazz took over Kirkcudbright last week, now it’s time for punk – steampunk to be precise.
The first ever Steampunk Weekend for the town kicks off on Saturday and it looks like it will be extremely popular.
Susi Francis, who is organising the event with husband Matt, said: “It’s shaping up pretty well. It looks like the cabaret might be a sell out, which is great.
“Hopefully the weather is going to be okay.”
Borgue couple Susi and Matt – who use the steampunk names Lady Susannah de Borgue and Captain Max Snoot – have arranged an exciting weekend, with stallholders out in force in Soaperie Gardens and Kirkcudbright Scout Hall offering the best of steampunk artefacts, clothing, jewellery and accessories.
There will also be exhibits, workshops, readings and promenading – and an appearance from a time machine.
Saturday night’s cabaret in the parish church hall will feature seven acts. Tickets are unlikely to be available on the door, so head to www.kirkcudbrightsteampunk.com to get yours.
The Steaming Foggs will perform at The Garret on Saturday afternoon, with more music planned on the Harbour Square stage on Sunday.
Shops have the opportunity to enter the window competition and businesses can sponsor the event to help ensure the festival goes into the annual Kirkcudbright calendar.
