St Pat’s part ways with manager Tim Clancy after run of defeats

St Patrick’s Athletic have parted company with manager Tim Clancy after a three game losing streak.

The Saints lost 1-0 at home to Sligo Rovers yesterday, having gone down to Derry City and Shamrock Rovers before that.

That poor run of form has seen the Inchicore club drop to seventh in the table, 11 points behind leaders Bohemians.

A club statement today read: “St Patrick's Athletic can confirm that Tim Clancy has resigned from his position as First Team Manager by mutual consent.

“Club chairman Garrett Kelleher would like to thank Tim for his commitment to the club over the last 18 months.

“Tim would like to thank everyone at St Pat's for their support during his time as Manager and wishes the club the best of luck in the future.”

Clancy succeeded Stephen O’Donnell in the hotseat at the start of last season and secured a fourth-placed league finish - 18 points behind champions Shamrock Rovers.

This season, St Pat’s made a shaky start having lost three of their opening five league games but they recovered and climbed the table after four straight wins.

But recent defeats have cost Clancy, with confirmation of his departure coming less than 24 hours after yesterday’s home defeat to Sligo Rovers.

St Pat’s were poor in the Richmond Park sunshine and after the match, Clancy said: “It’s not good enough.

“When you go from top scorers in the league to now, not getting shots on target in the last two games, it's just not good enough.

“Three games ago we were joint top scorers with Shamrock Rovers, it’s a frustrating thing, maybe a confidence thing.

“We need to make runs in the box that you expect to be on the end of things rather than hope.

“It’s something that’s been really frustrating the last couple of games and it’s not like the lads can’t score goals.

“Maybe we’re not making that little run that will get you on the end of things but it’s something we’ll be working on.”

Speaking at Richmond Park after the game, Clancy continued: “The goals we’re giving up are poor. Really sloppy goals.

“Obviously, Joe Redmond is out, but we’ve also got Tom Grivosti and Harry Brockbank out as well, so we’re missing your three most experienced centre halves.

“It’s a tight league, but you have to be winning games and, no, that’s just not good enough.”

St Pat's assistant Jon Daly - the former Rangers striker - has been named interim manager.

Daly said: "We're looking for a reaction from the players and the staff, we're disappointed with the situation and it's something we believe we can turn around, starting on Friday down in Cork."
