St Mirren in the running to sign Middlesbrough striker Toyosi Olusanya

St Mirren are hoping to persuade Middlesbrough striker Toyosi Olusanya his future lies in Paisley.

The 24-year-old forward made an incredible switch to the Riverside Stadium last year, when then manager Neil Warnock brought him up to the Championship from English non-league side Billericay Town.

The former Wimbledon youth star made three appearances in the Championship last year, with most of his time spent with the club's under-23 side.

With his prospects at Middlesbrough looking bleak after manager Chris Wilder's arrival, he is now set to move with media outlet Football League World reporting the Saints are keen on his signature.

They aren't the only Scottish team interested though, with Motherwell and Livingston also credited with an interest in the pacey striker.

When signing for Middlesbrough last year, Olusanya revealed he felt like he'd won a "golden ticket" to progress so quickly to the second tier of English football.

He told their club website: "It means the world.

"Over the past two years I've really got my head down. This is more than an opportunity, it's a golden ticket. I was initially hoping for a League Two or One move, to come straight to the Championship is unreal.

"When I was at Wimbledon I was young. I've had to mature mentally and physically and I won't take much for granted.

"I have to pinch myself. When I was a kid I used to watch Neil Warnock on TV all the time, now I'm training with him and speaking to him. I just want to make my mark now."

St Mirren have already bolstered their front line this summer after signing winger Jonah Ayunga from Morecambe FC.
